WEEK 1 : INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
For this week, the first question that helps us to understand what is Sustainable Development really is of course ' What happened in current development?'. This question I think is actually quite similar to ' What did you do today?' The point here is do we realize what our hands have done to the world. Was it beneficial for the future or make it worst.
I remembered when Sir mentioned Maryam lake. I feel interested to talk about it because lake is one of my favorite healing spot. I like the smell of the trees, the greenery and few people. However, some question would come across my mind whenever I'm thinking about the fate of these beautiful creatures. What would happen if we didn't protect and preserve them? What if we put a blind eye on the excessive development on nature in the focus to achieve the economic goals? What would be the future generation's story if they become extinct?
This can be heard and seen through the million hectares of tropical forest being destroyed, unethical exploitation of resources and mass pollution because of human activities itself. Also because of the instant rapid development causes the disparity between the poor and the rich becoming wider, unequal treatment is everywhere and so on. These are the downsides of the successful growth that somehow we intentionally put it aside.
With the presence of Sustainable Development Goals, it has opened up the eyes of the world that improving the quality of life together to protect and enhance the earth's life support system are crucially important. We have to achieve the level of being a high-level human being.
This is also has emphasized in Islam that the resource provided in the world is assigned for man to take care of it in the best possible way. Not for the sake of self interest and greediness in pursuing the highest rank.
That's all for today. Meet you until the next time!

hi leya, it's such an outstanding topic to talk about. I agree with the words of "rapid development causes the disparity between the poor and the rich becoming wider". Rich becoming richer and the poor getting even poorer. Without us realizing, some of these deprived community take an action to commit crime such as robbery and thief rather than look for a job. As a result, the society bond will be loose. In fact, our country will never get the "Sustainable Development" as ptgers country. So, all people need to have a role to play in grappling with it unless our societies will suffer numerous adverse consequences.
ReplyDeleteoh my, this is eye opening for me. the part where i read ' do we realize what our hands have done to the world, we really do have to care more about the nature around us. i realized how much damaged that has been cause by our hands and awareness about this should be spread more often so that more and more people can together help to sustain the nature around us.
ReplyDeleteThe presence of Sustainable Development Goals is indeed crucial. It has opened up the eyes of the world to improve the quality of life together to protect and enhance the earth's life support system. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were created to end poverty, reduce inequality, prevent life-being extinction, and build more peaceful, prosperous societies by 2030. I believe that if the topic of sustainable development is spread more widely, it will be able to make many people aware of the importance of maintaining peace and well-being on our earth. With this, the issues mentioned above can be resolved. Thank you Leya, for creating a blog with this kind of content. I hope more people will read it <3
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with these imposed words. As human beings, we need to be responsible for caring for the environment that God has endowed us with, such as not cutting down trees for our own benefit or will or at will. By taking care of the environment, it is also able to heal the aging earth.
