WEEK 4 : FRAMEWORK OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Assalamualaikum and meet again!
Before today's class started, Dr asked us about how was our journey during the Holy month of Ramadhan. For me, it was very challenging and fun. I spend my time a lot on rectify to Allah SWT. Did a lot of reading Quran, pray on time and help my friends.
Also, in today's lesson, it more likely about the historical of factors that driven emergence of sustainable development to be established. We learned that Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a transition from Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). What have changed from the previous terms is MDGs specifically main focus on the poverty with the objective to increase the standard of living. It emphasizes on three areas which are human capital, infrastructure and human rights. MDGs stresses on the responsibility of developed countries (United Nation) to assist and aid developing countries. In the fight to eradicate global poverty, developing countries purportedly became partner with developed countries align with Goal 8 which is to develop a global partnership for development.
Whereas for SDGs or , it consists of 17 Goals which the objective is all-inclusive roadmap for a better and more sustainable future for all. It is a Global Goal. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the successor to the Millennium Development Goals, which came to an end in 2015, and were designed as part of the Post-2015 Development Agenda as the future framework for global development. It is a participatory process and it targets the universal. The Sustainable Development Goals have placed a significant emphasis on assisting developing nations. The significance of their active engagement is acknowledged to be very important and they is financially assisted in execution of Sustainable Development Goals in their countries.
Islamic perspective
This SDGs implementation reflects the framework of Islamic teaching. Where we as human being, khalifah and guardians of the earth must protect the well being and welfare of society and individual benefit. People who are in a position of power and wealth have a responsibility to assist those who are less fortunate and who are in need. We must together help one another and ensure the preservation of humanity is sustained. We have to overlook a big picture of the problem and not only focus on particular area. It must be broad and comprehensive so no one will left behind.

To eradicate global poverty, we couldn't became partner with developed countries only. However, we have to called out all over the world to unite. So, there will no any country left behind.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! now i know why the importance of SDG in our life. we have seen improvements especially in higher education framewotk that promote the Sustainable Development.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of this before. Glad that the United Nations introduced the SDGs to replace and renew the MDGs. The MDGs do not cover all aspects where it often loses marginalized groups such as people with disabilities, indigenous groups, rural communities, and women. Since the world leaders finally adopted the 17 sustainable development goals, many areas and issues have been highlighted and resolved. In addition to having 17 detailed goals, the SDGs are also supported by four key principles: Universal, Integrating all the sustainability mentioned, Don’t leave anyone behind, and Participation. However, even though the concept is good, it still needed the participation of all local and international levels. Only then can the goals of the SDGs be realized together for global prosperity and better than the MDGs.
